Week 6 Reflection

This week I explored ChatGPT and Craiyon. I have some experience using ChatGPT, but Craiyon is brand new to me and my first impression is very positive! I had fun experimenting with different prompts and adjusting the search terms to generate more specific images. I was impressed with the different parameters you can specify and the vast range of images it can create. Within this post, I included two images and the associated prompts that were used to generate them.

On the other hand, ChatGPT quickly became an important part of my study and assignment routine last semester. The most useful aspect of it for me is the editing of paragraphs and other written assignments. I frequently use the prompt: “Edit this passage for grammar, punctuation, and clarity” or “Incorporate more diverse vocabulary into this passage”. I have found these to be useful and effective commands that elevate my writing. Of course, it is important to always give credit when using any form of AI assistance, which I usually incorporate by saying: “Written with editorial assistance from ChatGPT”.

What are some potential risks associated with the use of AI, including ChatGPT and Craiyon, in elementary classrooms? Some potential risks I see are misinformation/inaccurate information, privacy concerns and security risks, dependence on technology/lack of critical thinking and problem-solving, the stunting of creativity, and reduced social interactions in the classroom.

On the other hand, what benefits do you see with incorporating AI into lessons? Or into the lesson planning process?

Some benefits I see are tailored lessons to meet diverse needs, more efficient assessment, improved access to resources and materials, support and accessibility for students with learning disabilities or differences, and exposure to innovative technology.

Let me know your thoughts!
